
João Costa is a Full Professor of Linguistics at FCSH – NOVA.
He graduated in Linguistics at Universidade de Lisboa. In 1998, he obtained his PhD in Linguistics from Leiden University. He spent a year of his doctoral studies at MIT.
His work focuses on the study of word order in the world languages, and on the acquisition of syntax by typically developing and impaired children.
He published 13 books, and around 80 articles and book chapters.
He has been invited lecturer at several universities in Brazil, Macau, Spain and Holland.
He participated in several research projects, acting as PI in three Language Acquisition projects. He has also been actively involved in projects for promoting the teaching of Portuguese, in the Portuguese Ministry of Education.
He integrates the editorial board and scientific committee of several international journals and scientific events.
