When President Barack Obama visited OPOWER's HQ in 2010, he called it, "a model of what we want to be seeing all across the country." Alex Laskey is president and founder of the industry-leading smart grid and energy efficiency software company. Using behavioral science, advanced data analytics and clever marketing expertise OPOWER is driving down energy usage across America. Part of its success relies on paper reports comparing energy usage with consumer's neighbours. Since launching in 2008, the approach has cumulatively saved customers for the customers of over 55 utilities clients nearly $35 million (£21.8 million).
Background on what Opower does: Opower is a new customer engagement platform for the utility industry. It helps people use energy more efficiently and ultimately save money on their energy bills and it vastly improves the overall customer experience by making energy use personally relevant. President Obama visited the company, headquarter in Arlington, VA, and praised them for their work making more homes energy efficient and in the process creating jobs for others.
Opower is probably best known for pioneering the Home Energy Report. These reports deliver personalized information about energy usage in a home or small business, and offer easy-to-follow tips that can quickly lead to energy savings. Customized at the household level, the reports likely offer energy-efficiency advice. More than 3 million homes receive their reports today, and they’re on track to save hundreds of millions of dollars on their energy bills.
