The NOVA School of Law (Faculdade de Direito da NOVA) is organizing the Conference "The Global Legacy of Truth Commissions" to discuss the role of Truth Commissions in post-conflict societies. The Conference is taking place on February 15 and 16 and will have the presence of several international experts in the area of Justice and Human Rights, including Justice Albie Sachs, to whom NOVA is granting the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
Truth Commissions (TCs) have become the norm in post-conflict societies to deal with gross human rights violations and heal the wounds of the past. Despite criticisms, these transitional justice institutions play important roles. They have made vital contributions to their societies. Now, some 50 years after the first TC it is time to take stock of the role the approximately 100 TCs have played, and examine their global legacy.
The entrance in this Conference is free but subject to registration through globallegacyconference@gma
