Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is granting the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Artur Santos Silva. The ceremony will take place on July 5 at 6.30 pm in the Rectorate’s Auditorium, in Campolide Campus and willl have the presence of the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Prof.ª Doutora Maria Fernanda Rollo, who will give the laudation to the awardee.
Before the ceremony, at 4.30 pm in Auditorium B, there will be a conference regarding Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa entitled "A Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e a NOVA - caminhos partilhados".
Born in Porto, Artur Santos Silva is the founder of the BPI Group and former President of the Board of Directors of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He was also Vice-Governor of Banco de Portugal, Secretary of State for Treasury and Director of Banco Português do Atlântico. He presided as well to the National Commission to the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Republic of Portugal, to the General Board of the University of Coimbra and to the Board of Founders of Casa da Música. Artur Santos Silva has also several national and foreign decorations.
