Hospital da Bonecada (Hospital for Toys) is back from april 21 to 29, at Colombo mall, to take care of children's "sick" toys. The initiative developed by the Student's Union from NOVA Medical School | Faculdade de Ciências Médicas aims to help children to overcome the "White Coat Sindrome", this is, to lose the fear of the hospital environment or going to the doctor.

During a whole week, students of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Nutrition, Medical Imaging, Dentistry and Speech Terapy will be present at an infrastructure similar to a hospital at Colombo's central square, invinting children between three and ten years old to meet the world of healthcare and medical assistance, in a interactive, fun and painless way. The Hospital includes trial rooms, medical offices, operating rooms, nursing rooms, pharmacy, dental clininc, ophthalmology, nutrition, microscopy, medical imaging and radiotherapy, psychology, speech therapy and a physiotherapy gym. Entrance is free, children are only asked to bring their dolls.

Hospital da Bonecada was created in 2001, based on the “Teddy Bear®” project, developed by EMSA (European Medical Students Association). On academic year 2006/2007, the project was distinguished with the Hospital of the Future Prize by Portuguese Pediatrics Society.
