NOVA distinguished in the Leiden ranking

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is the first Portuguese institution to be ranked above the average reference global media at the Leiden ranking (MNCS=1.03%; reference value 1.00) and leads in Portugal, for the second year in a row, the impact of the scientific production (number of times a publication is cited).

In the indicator PPtop10%, NOVA rises to 9,8% (9,6% in 2015), and leads, in Portugal, the areas of Life and Earth Sciences and Social sciences and Humanities, sharing ex-aequo the top position with Universidade do Minho in the area of Biomedical and Health Sciences.

The Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University measures, annually, the impact of scientific production of 750 universities worldwide, using two different indicators: MNCS (mean normalized citation score - the average number of citations of the publications of a university, normalized for field differences and publication year) and PP(top 10%) (proportion of top 10% publications that, compared with other publications in the same field and in the same year, belong to the top 10% most frequently cited).

NOVA's Rector, António Rendas, states that "this way, we can assess the quality of the scientific production of NOVA and analyse its global impact, showing the potential of our researchers and generating value and global recognition for our institution".
