PYCA Prize awarded to NOVA researcher

The Portuguese Young Chemists Award (PYCA), awarded by the Youth Group Chemicals of the Portuguese Chemical Society, recognised the research work of Carina Crucho, PhD student at NOVA's Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia. The doctoral thesis of Carina Crucho, "Synthesis of Polymeric Nanoparticles for delivery biomedical applications", was directed by Teresa Barros, Associate Professor of the Faculty. The main objective of the project was the study and application of nanomaterials in new therapeutic systems, and the design of polymeric nanoparticles that allow changing the distribution of in vivo drugs through its structure, aiming for a more selective distribution and, consequently, an increased therapeutic index.

The award, sponsored by Elsevier, aims to promote the excellence of chemistry developed by young researchers, with a special focus on the impact of this Science in Society. It is awarded every two years to recent graduates under 35 years old, dostinguihsing their work during PhD.
