The Award Delivery Ceremony of the Prémio de Mérito Cientifico Santander Totta/ Universidade NOVA 2012/2013 took place on March 27th, at 6 p.m., at NOVA's Rectorate.
The winning project, entitled "Antibody Engineering for the Treatment of Breast Cancer" was developed by researchers Paula Videira and José Ramalho (Faculdade de Ciências Médicas), Carlos Novo (Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical), Angelina Sá Palma and Ana Luísa Carvalho (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia).
The aim of this project is to develop unique therapeutics to treat breast cancer, by bioengineering/designing antibodies to perform two tasks: to specifically target cancer cells, and simultaneously engage patient’s immune system to kill these tumour cells.
