Filipa Calisto

Filipa Calisto is a PhD student in ITQB NOVA - Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier. She has a bachelor degree in Genetics and Biotechnology by Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and a master degree in Applied Microbiology by Faculdade de Ciências of Universidade de Lisboa.

Prior to his PhD, Filipa has worked in the Research Institute for Medicines and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Faculdade de Farmácia of Universidade de Lisboa, investigating the role and genetic environment of carbapenemase KPC-3 in clinical isolates.

Filipa’s PhD project aims at understanding the function, structure and operational mechanism of Alternative Complex III, a protein from bacteria respiratory chains, which has quinol:cytochrome c oxidoreductase activity.
