Located in the centre of Lisbon since its creation in 1977, the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) is a multidisciplinary unit that promotes diversity of knowledge, creativity and freedom of thought.
Starting with the academic year 2006/2007, undergraduate programs are structured according to the Bologna Agreement. Therefore, mobility and internationalization of students are encouraged.
Teaching and research activities developed at the Faculty ensures solid scientific training in the different domains of Social Sciences and Humanities. Flexibility is a distinctive feature in structuring the academic profile of students, both in Undergraduate and in Post-graduate Programs. The development of competences in all areas enables the autonomy of life-long learning.
The Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas produces a high number of MA and PhD dissertations every year, which reinforce the research and teaching activities.
The 18 research centers which integrate professors and students constitute a marker of national and international quality. The School has 11 research centers evaluated as “Excellent” or “Very Good”, according to the criteria defined by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology) placing it at a leading position in the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The high number of international projects in which Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas participates demonstrates the growing visibility of the research developed in this Institution.
