Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (FCT) (Faculty of Sciences and Technology) is one of nine organic units belonging to Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) (New University of Lisbon). Its campus lies in the south bank of the river Tagus, spreading throughout an area of 30 ha with the possibility of expansion up to 60 ha.

Created in 1977, nowadays FCT is one of the most prestigious Portuguese Schools of Sciences and Engineering with its 5600 graduate students and 600 post-graduate students.

Justifying its goal as a research oriented faculty, the research activity is strong. FCT holds 18 different Research Centres, 10 with Excellent/Very Good classification and 8 with Good (classification by the Foundation of Science and Technology / Ministery of Science, Technology and Higher Education).

The quality of teaching and research has brought a growing attention from employers which translates in a very good acceptance of FCT graduates and post-graduates in the working market.

FCT cultivates a very strong relationship with the “Outside World”, both Portuguese and Foreign Institutions, strongly supporting interchanges of students, teaching staff and researchers, under many research projects.
Its scientific production, corroborated with a fair amount of papers in well established international publications, contributes to an effective reconnaissance in the academic world.

Also, FCT is widely involved with the general community providing its expertises and skills to help Governmental and Local Institutions as well as enterprises in studying and solving many different questions and problems related to in house areas of knowledge.
