Objectives

This discipline aims to give the basic knowledge about cellulose based materials and their biological and technological relevance.

Subject matter

Introduction. Cellulose Structure. Chemical Modification of Cellulose. Characterization of Chemically Modified Cellulose. Interaction between cellulose derivatives and solvents. Cellulose Liquid Crystalline Polymers.Composite Cellulose Materials. Applications of cellulose and cellulose derivatives.

Evaluation method

Course work is determinant for being approved in this subject and is calculated from NF=(T1 + T2 + NL)/3 or NF=(2E + NL)/3; where T1 and T2 are written tests, NL the laboratorial grade and E a final examination. The students are approved if the following conditions are satisfied simultaneously: T1, T2 anfd E>=8 and NF>=10.
