Objectives

To provide students with a broad understanding of why State intervention in a market economy may be justified. Special attention is paid to ensure a balanced view.

Subject matter

Government intervention in a market economy, the government budget constraints, taxation and rules versus discretion.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS
Describe the teaching and learning methods that enable students to achieve the above-mentioned Learning Objectives of the course:


Each week there will be two lectures (1.5 hours each). Students are expected to attend the lectures and to follow and actively participate in the discussion of concepts and applications. In addition, students are also expected to be prepared to present examples or exercises with additional applications of the theory.

Evaluation method

Assessment is based on A. Final exam; B. Midterm exam; C. Class participation.
The final grade will be 0.55 A + 0.3 B + 0.15 C if A ≥ 8.0; A if A < 8.0.
