Education objectives

The statistics and information management two years undergraduate course provides education for future professionals in the Information Management area. These professionals can be characterized has the ones that area able to make the bridge between the different business areas and the information systems area. Being specialists in the information gathering, management and analysis, their main job is to reduce the decision uncertainty levels associated with the decision making process, guarantying improvements in the enterprise decisional processes. Today, more than ever before, the ability to translate data into information is central in any business and constitutes a strategic aspect in the success in the business world. In the Information Management undergraduate course the students are expose to methodologies and tools which contribute to the improvement of the decisional processes through the use of better and more relevant information.

Access conditions

The condition for applying are:</br> <ul><li>Licenciatura degree, Bacharelato degree or two full years of higher education; </li><li>Writen examination to evaluate numeracy and literacy levels and curriculum vitae analysis ; </li><li>A personal interview with the admission committtee is also part of the entry requeriments. </li></ul>

Degree pre-requisites

The study program is organized in 4 semesters comprehending a total of 120 ECTS, distributed through five learning areas (fundamental sciences; data collection, processing and analysis; information systems and technology; scientific areas of application; skills). 114 ECTS, out of the 120, refer to compulsory courses. Additionally, the student has to choose 1 optional course, which correspond to 6 ECTS or complete a Practical Training period. All the optional courses can be completed in the context of the internal (within the Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and external (for instance the Erasmus program) mobility programs available.

Access to other courses

After the completion of the Statistics and Information Managment degree the student has the possibility of applying to a masters degree.

Evaluation rules

In a 0 to 20 grading scheme used at UNL, it is necessary to achieve a minimum grade of 10 in each subject for approval.
