Education objectives
This doctoral program aims to provide a thorough and critical understanding of the key analytical perspectives within the area of Global Studies, as well as to enable autonomous research practice at the meeting point of several sub-areas of study and research within this multidisciplinary academic area. The accomplishment of these objectives will be ensured by a curriculum that combines i) a pre-defined curriculum structure and the
possibility of building learning pathways chosen by students themselves; ii) specialized training which promotes, at the same time, multidisciplinary learning, enhanced by the decidedly interdisciplinary nature of the various seminars; iii) working methodologies linking teaching, tutorial mentoring and integration within research projects - coordinated by teaching staff/researchers - with students gradually assuming more responsibility for their work - through learning and research options.
Degree pre-requisites
The curriculum has been designed with a duration of four academic years with a first academic year aimed at in-depth training in this area and also preparating the plan of work to carry out the thesis, followed by three academic years to write the dissertation.
Evaluation rules
1. Curriculum Modules to be held in the 1st year of the programme:
- 1 Mandatory Curriculum Unit with the aim of developing cross-disciplinary debates and perspectives in Global Studies (10 ECTS);
- 2 Curriculum Units with the aim of providing in-depth knowledge on specific theories and research skills in Global Studies (20 ECTS)
- 1 Curriculum Unit option which students can choose from any of the 3rd cycle curriculum modules, which can provide added value to both their training and the subject of their dissertation (10 ECTS);
- 1 Multidisciplinary Curriculum Unit after which the student must have chosen a theme and have a well defined research problem with an organized scheme of work for the dissertation (20 ECTS).
2. During the three academic years following the completion of the curricular part of the course the student must write a dissertation which is allocated 180 ECTS.
No internships are envisaged as part of the mandatory training.
