Objectives

a) To provide a general view of the Anglo-Portuguese alliance
b) To study literary and cultural images of nineteenth-century England from Júlio Dinis to the British Ultimatum of 1890, mainly Eça de Queirós and the Geração de 70
c) To develop interpreting and critical skills
d) To develop research skills

Attendance of at least 2/3 of the classes taught

Teaching method

Theoretical classes on the subjects to be studied; reading, interpretation and discussion of texts; oral presentation by the students of a project followed by debate

Evaluation method


Presentation and debate in class of a project on one of the topics to be studied (50% of the final mark) / written test (50% of the final mark). Final written examination for those students who did not obtain the minimum mark required.
