Objectives

a) To develop competence in translation of scientific texts (mainly legal texts)
b) To acquire competence to deal with the problems raised by this kind of texts.
c) To acquire competence for investigations in the field of these texts.
d) To improve linguistic skills.

Prerequisites

“Licenciatura” degree or an equivalent.

Subject matter

Analysis and translation of pragmatic texts.
Critical analysis and correction of translations made by the colleagues.
Organizing and investigating corpora that are representative of specific aspects of scientific texts.
Terminology management.

Practical application of the acquired knowledge to concrete translation tasks.
Analysis and critical discussion of individual translations and of the inherent methodological tasks.
Research of corpora and elaboration of glossaries, or bibliographical research.

Evaluation method

Active participation in class.
Written translations to be discussed in class.
Evaluation tests.
Eventually organization of corpora and glossaries or bibliographical research.
