Library
The FCT Library mission is to facilitate and promote access to a wide range of knowledge resources from print to electronic materials.
We aim to provide users with a modern, comfortable environment conducive to study and research.
We seek an adjusted setting where up-to-date information delivery services are flexible. Our top priority is to find innovative approaches to Information Access.
The Library has 434 reading seats spread over five reading rooms. The collection is under open access policy and it’s available to all teachers, researchers, students and staff of the FCT as well as the general public.
All documentation is recorded in the catalog that is available online (OPAC). All documents, in whatever form, are Requestable for home reading, except reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, language, thematic dictionaries, standards ...), scientific journals, and reserved works (works with special features that are grouped into collections) and those documents marked with yellow circle.
Users can also access documents that don’t exist in the FCT Library, through a program called the interlibrary loan, which is a partnership between similar institutions in the country and abroad.
The Library provides several Xerox machines on a self-service basis that allow copying, printing and scanning.
The copier works with card. Users can purchase the photocopy card at any service desk and reload them in the green room (floor 1) or in the blue room (floor 2). The card is rechargeable. The price list is posted at the counters and near the equipment. The Library undertakes to comply with the law of copyright.
The printing service is available through Vouchers. Users may acquire a voucher at any service desk and then activate them in the computers available in the reading rooms. The price list is posted at the counters and near the equipment.
The scans are completely free.
There are forty-two computers available in the library building, for work and research.
The entire building is served by "wireless” Internet and you can remotely access all the documentation in digital form.
The Library has 40 individual working rooms and 8 group working rooms (6 persons each). The Individual working rooms are intended primarily at users who are developing research activities. The group working rooms are destined exclusively for groups. These working rooms must be occupied by at least two people and under no circumstances for more than six people simultaneously.
Through the library is possible access a large number of scientific journals as the institution is part of the consortium B-On, even if users are outside the campus.
The Library also has an exhibition hall and an auditorium with capacity for 80 people.
The Library provides a cultural program with a wide range of different activities such as: art exhibitions (painting, art installation, photography, sculpture), lectures on relevant social issues, movies, plays, dance .
We recently opened a space called "American Corner".
The "American Corner" provides access to collections of books and scientific databases.
