Education objectives
This degree in Computer Science (of FCT), which began in 1975, is the oldest universityprogramme in Portugal entirely devoted to science and engineering of computers, and has always been recognized by the Engineers'''' Order.
In 2006/07 a new phase in the life of teaching in Computer Engineering started at FCT with the adoption of the "Bologna model", now resting in a format with a course of a cycle of three years which provides a solid basic broadband, in Computer Science, followed by a course of 2nd cycle (Master) 2 years, providing expertise and advanced studies.
The degree covers the topics considered nuclear in the field of computer science and based on the experience of teaching in the Department of Informatics and on the recommendations expressed in the ACM / IEEE Computing Curricula.
Responding to the challenges of "Bologna" the degree has a flexible design, combining mobility and employability. The student, in addition to a solid base formation, can choose training leading to a 2nd cycle in advanced computing in Europe, or other training that gives a faster integration into the labor market. Licensees have been very successful in the job market, being the most wanted ads appearing in the press requesting Information Engineers. They are former college students majoring in organizations of all economic sectors: banks, insurance companies, industrial companies, utility companies, telecommunications providers, consulting firms, government, equipment suppliers, software houses, institutions teaching, research and development, etc..
considering the extending the scope of computers and computer techniques, and given the high quality standards we impose on our courses, we can predict with certainty that the job market will continue to focus on the graduates in Computer Science from FCT.
In the current 3-year BSc students, in addition to output to the labor market, have the output for further study in a second Cycle in the FCT or another university in the European area, which will provide a leading-edge expertise.

Evaluation rules
The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:
- Evaluation based solely on an examination or completion of a final project.
- Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project.
