Education objectives
The main goal of the Master degree in Industrial Engineering and Management (MIEGI) is to prepare Industrial Engineers with a solid background in Engineering sciences, covering several domains such as Production Management, Industrial Logistics, Quality Engineering, Information Technologies, Ergonomics, Industrial Technology and Automation and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing.
The MIEGI is a broadband degree, distributed along five academic years, that is oriented towards the fulfillment of the requirements of the organizations, regardless their characteristics (services or manufacturing, public or private).
Experimental work is highly encouraged along the degree. This approach starts with the classical experiments in Chemistry and Physics and evolves to the development of experimental work within the framework of Industrial Engineering. In the last stage most of the experimental work is developed in cooperation with the organizations. Computational resources are utilized whenever required. Therefore, students will work with programming languages, spreadsheets, simulation packages and CAD systems.
The ability to work integrated in teams is quite important to the engineering activity. Hence, the completion of some courses requires teamwork. Team performance is reflected in the final grade, which is nonetheless individual and based on the discussion of the reports as well as on written exams.
The students are encouraged to explore the link between scientific research and technological innovation as well as the technical oriented decision making, not disregarding the human dimension.
Summarizing, the degree is developed along three stages with progressive specialization. In the first stage most of the courses are oriented towards the fundamentals of Engineering, namely as regards Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. In the second stage, most of the courses are focused on Industrial Engineering subjects, being some optional courses available to the student. Finally, in the last stage, the work is focused on the development of the master thesis.

Evaluation rules
The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:
- Evaluation based solely on an examination or completion of a final project.
- Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project. In these courses students can expect to carry out, for example, laboratory activities, mini-tests, tests, individual or group projects, seminar-related activities, any combination of which will be used to determine the final grade.
- Evaluation based obligatorily on an examination or a final project. In these courses there extists a form of evaluation similar to
