Education objectives

The aim of the Master degree on Electrical, System and Computer Engineering is to provide the graduate students the specific skills and knowledge necessary to work in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering, by giving them the ability to act and become a leader on complex engineering projects as well as the ability to participate in R&D activities.

The course curriculum achieves these objectives in five main areas of specialization, each one with its own specific objectives:

Robotics and Sensorial Systems
Provides skills in robotics and robotic systems, including sensorial systems, control, power electronics, electrical devices, distributed manufacturing systems, tele-robotics, etc.., as well as aspects of production management.

Micro-electronics and Digital Systems
Provides skills on project definition and design of complete hardware systems for the electronic communication industry (wired and wireless) and home appliances industry. It covers project of analog system (radio-frequency and baseband), digital systems and hybrid systems in CMOS/BiCMOS advanced technologies; embedded systems and software for digital signal processing in real time (MCUs/PLDs/DSPs/FPGAs); wireless communication (layers 1 (physical) and 2 (link)).

Energy and Automation
Provides skills in Production, Transportation and Use of Electrical Energy. More specifically, the students obtain skills in the technologies related to energy and the setting up of requirements, assessment of projects, exploitation environment and design of electrical equipment and electrical installations.

Co-operative business networks
Provides skills on the development and analysis of co-operative business networks including virtual enterprises, virtual organizations, virtual communities, virtual laboratories, distributed manufacturing systems, etc., computer networks and other supporting technologies, governance guidelines, organizational models, as well as design and development of supporting systems.

Telecommunications

Provides skills in Telecommunication networks and services with a great focus on distributed systems and mobility (using both structured networks and ad-hoc networks). It includes signal transmission, embedded systems, image processing, as well as management and sociological topics.
