Objectives

The main objectives of the discipline is to divulge inspection of structures procedures, design techniques and methodologies for the repair and strengthening of structures.

In addition to the theoretical and practical lessons, lectures with specialists and site work visits are organized.

The students participate in inspection work, in structures strengthening design, and also in laboratory lessons where they simulate the repair of a structural element with appropriate materials.

Some students will have the possibility to participate in research work in the area of repair and strengthening of structures.

Strengthening and Repair of Structures

1. Durability of structures

2. Inspection of structures, structural damages and others

3. Strengthening of reinforced concrete structures

i. with steel stripes or FRP composites;

ii. by reinforced concrete jacketing;

iii. by post tensioning;

iv. or structural modification of layout.

4. Strengthening of masonry structures

5. Strengthening of steel structures

6. Repair of structures

Teaching method

Theoretical lectures, solving-problem classes, laboratory experiments and tutorial sessions.
