Objectives

The students are stimulated to use theoretical and experimental tools to carry out each work. The final goal in the written reports is the evaluation and discussion of the results obtained with the selected theoretical model in the presence of the measured values on actual laboratory structures.

Subject matter

Experimental Stress Analysis. Photoelasticity and Electrical Strain Gauge Measurement. Wheatstone Bridge. Strain Gauge. Experimental Determination of Inertia Properties.  Experimental Modal Analysis. Experimental Static and Dynamic Balancing of Shafts: One and Two Planes Methods. Data Acquisition Systems. Fundamentals of Signal Theory. Sampling. Signal Conditioning and Processing. Force, Pressure, Displacement, Velocity Transducers. Accelerometers.
Hot-wire anemometry: fundamentals of hot-wire anemometry. Probes and measurement systems

Evaluation method

At the laboratory each team of students (max. 3) carries out five experimental works, each of them followed by a written report . The experimental performance of each student is evaluated through these reports and an oral examination, which corresponds to a mark (DE).  Addittionally each student is submited to a written test to evaluate the theoretical performance (T).
