Objectives

As a result of the successful completion of this course will position the students should be able to:

  • Identify and analyze the impact of information technology on competitive advantage;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of different types of information systems;
  • Evaluate the strategic options and the ways in which the business and information systems strategies can be aligned and integrated;
  • Understand the major area of information systems and technology in a business;
  • Demonstrate how to apply appropriate technological systems and infrastructures to support a business information systems solution;
  • Understand the role of business process management for adding business value of information technology;
  • Understand how can information systems support managerial decision making;
  • Evaluate the organizational, managerial, and technical factors involved in the successful implementation of electronic business.

Subject matter

The course is based on the premise that knowledge about information systems is essential for creating successful, competitive firms, for adding business value, and for providing useful products and services to customers. The main purpose is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the theoretical as well as practical aspects of information systems, particularly, how it fits into an overall corporate strategy. This course provides a comprehensive foundation to understand the theories, concepts, methods, models, tools and cases related to management of information systems at different levels of management such as transaction processing systems and business intelligence systems.
