Education objectives

This Masters course provides the opportunity to deepen the knowledge and understanding of clinical and community intervention, specific to physiotherapy, and develop competencies for autonomous intervention, as well as contribute to the development of the profession, research and an evidence based practice.

The course is focused on the specific needs of clients/populations, with the commitment to the values of the profession and to professional development & lifelong learning. It deepens the knowledge in fundamental areas to the understanding of health problems and associated disability, assuming exercise as a central tool in the promotion of functional capacity and social participation of individuals/populations. The student develops:

(a) Research, critical analysis of literature and evaluation of effectiveness in specific contexts’ competences;

(b) Ability to effectively collaborate with others, as a participant, leader or consultant, motivating them and effectively managing conflict;

(c) self evaluation capacity, taking into account the impact of political & socio-economic factors in health care delivery, and its effectiveness;

(d) Ability to understand, evaluate and contribute to the development of services and of quality assurance mechanisms;

(e) Ability to reflect upon practice and the profession, in order to identify personal and professional objectives towards continuous professional development and lifelong learning, integrating previous knowledge and experience;

(f) Ability to formulate new questions, select, plan and implement research strategies, review results systematically and publicize them adequately.

Degree pre-requisites

Successful completion of the 120 ECTS: 60 ECTS in the first curricular year and 60 ECTS in the second year - Project.
