Education objectives

1) Ability to argue critically and to produce discourse that is conceptually articulate, coherent and based on solid principles;
2) Ability to recognise, ponder and clarify the problems that the human being encounters in his effort to understand himself and the world;
3) Ability to question and to understand ideas referring to the nature of reality, knowledge and values which are present in all fields of human experience;
4) Ability to identify and analyse the problems that interconnect the fields of philosophy, science, art and culture.

Access conditions

Completion of secondary education, with a minimum entry grade of 9.5 on a scale of 0 to 20. Students may also be admitted to Higher Education through special access and entry systems, re-enrolment systems, course changes and transfers. More information: http://www.acessoensinosuperior.pt

Degree pre-requisites

Each student must obtain 180 credits: 120 credits from compulsory courses of the study programme, one of which is a 12-credit Seminar entitled Reading and Interpretation of Philosophical Texts, 30 credits from restricted options and 30 credits from free options or a Minor from another academic area. Each semester the student may not enrol in more than 30 credits and must respect any pre-requisites which have been set. At the beginning of each semester, the student is advised as to which courses are the most appropriate for their academic pathway and which they should take.

Access to other courses

Completion of the licenciatura degree allows the holder to apply for Masters programmes, or other post-graduate courses including those which do not confer a degree.

Assessment is in accordance with the assessment regulations approved by the competent statutory body.
