Education objectives

1) To acquire and to develop advanced competences for the analysis of the English Language, necessary for the continuous education of EFL teachers;
2. To acquire and to develop advanced competences for applying an analytical approach to the English Language to the planning and managing of teaching and learning activities;
3. To acquire knowledge and skills for the application of a variety of methodologies and ICT tools to teaching and learning English;
4. To acquire skills for designing and carrying out small-scale action-research projects relating to teaching and learning situations in ELT;
5. To acquire skills for clearly expressing the objectives, resources, procedures and results of projects;
6. To develop and to be able to discuss concepts, knowledge, experiences, competences and values acquired during pre- and in-service education;
7. To undertake a theoretical reflection on the contribution of different areas of knowledge to an understanding of the acquisition / learning of English, with special attention to new methods of teaching using ICT.

Degree pre-requisites

Length: 3 semesters. Total credits: 93 credits (60 in course units of the study programme + 33 in the non-taught component). Types of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project Work, Practical Work Experience with Report. Number of credits from elective options: 10 credits (the student can obtain 10 credits from elective options in course units taught at post-graduate level at FCSH/UNL, or at any other national or foreign higher education institution through a protocol.)
