Education objectives

The Masters degree in Linguistic Revision and Consultancy aims at qualifying professionals from different areas such as media, public relations, communication and image, marketing and advertising, legislators and teachers, among others, to develop and promote good practice in the use of the Portuguese language. It is expected that students should be capable of looking critically at the usage and functioning of the Portuguese
language, both written and spoken; of adequately recognizing and using the right formulas to different situations of communication and to different text typologies, in accordance with the socially accepted standards; and of answering questions related to the functioning of the Portuguese language.

1. The capacity to deepen the theoretical knowledge and methodological and technical skills to critically analyze the grammar and use of the Portuguese language, both written and spoken;
2. The capacity to reflect critically on the functioning of the language and of the texts, related to different applied domains;
3. The capacity to apply theoretical knowledge to original research projects, individually and/or collectively;
4. The capacity to apply or to develop new products in areas related to the (written or spoken) Portuguese language and its use in public domains;
5. The capacity to develop new strategies in professional activities related to Linguistic Revision and Consultancy;
6. The capacity to develop an original work in order to obtain the master’s degree.

Access conditions

First degree in areas related to Language, Literature, Communication, Marketing, Advertising (Language Sciences, Communication Sciences, Language and Literature, etc)

Degree pre-requisites

Length: 3 semesters.
Total credits: 93 credits (60 in course units of the study programme + 33 in the non-taught component).
The student must obtain 30 ECTS in the 1st semester and 30 ECTS in the 2nd semester.
Types of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project or Internship Report..
Number of credits from elective options: 10 credits (the student can obtain 10 credits from elective options in course units taught at post-graduate level at FCSH/UNL, or at any other national or foreign higher education institution through a protocol.)


Positive evaluation in these two semesters grants the student a post-graduation diploma.
To obtain the master degree, the student must obtain 33 ECTS more with one of the following written works:

Access to other courses

Completion of the Masters degree allows the holder to apply for the cycle of studies which leads to a Doctorate Degree. For the specific access requirements for doctoral programmes, consult the regulations governing the doctoral programmes at FCSH, UNL.

Evaluation rules

1) No obligatory precedences for attending the program’s courses. 2) Knowledge evalutation in the courses is individual and takes place at the end of each semester. The following tools will be considered: final oral and/or written assignments, papers or other assessment tools, in conditions to be agreed upon with each lecturer. The result of the evaluation is expressed in a mark from 0 to 20. 3) Approval in a course requires a final grade equal to or above 10. 4) Only those students who have obtained 60 ECTs on the scholar part of the program can proceed to the dissertation or project. 5) For the evaluation of the dissertation and project, please consult FCSH’s relevant regulations.
