Education objectives
The MSc in Engineering Geology (Earth Resources) aims to provide advanced skills and implement multidisciplinary approaches to enable future teachers to intervene in areas such as research, characterization, exploration and exploitation of natural resources (minerals and industrial rocks, ornamental rocks, water and energy resources), and a sustainable perspective in conjunction with the environmental systems surrounding (contamination of soil and groundwater remediation of contaminated sites, geological risk, and prioritization and site selection).
The curriculum covers the Masters field of action and / or expertise, that connect not only among other specialties of engineering (civil, mining and environment) as between engineering and geology.
As a second course of advanced studies, develops from a sound basic training in the areas of Geosciences and Engineering Sciences, which may be acquired by attending a first cycle in the same subject area (Engineering Geological and Mining Engineering Geology) or the like.
Careers
Mineral resources
Prospecting for metallic raw materials and non metallic building materials, ornamental stones and aggregates, materials characterization, setting reserves and operating conditions, site selection, orientation and monitoring the operation of quarries and sandpits; preparation of plans environmental landscaping.
Water resources
Prospecting for groundwater, flow tests, hydrochemical characterization, preparation of tender documents for construction techniques and their monitoring, protection of wells, springs, fountains and streams.
Geoenvironment
Participation in the preparation of environmental impact studies of engineering works, mines and quarries; collaboration in preparing municipal master plans, site selection for installation of infrastructure, industrial and hazardous waste disposal and non-hazardous assessment contamination of land and preparation of remediation plans, coastal defense measures, stability studies and defining areas of protection.
