Description
ISEGI-UNL is NOVA’s information management school. It has as main mission the promotion of excellence teaching, research and development, within the fields of information management and information systems.
ISEGI-UNL offers two undergraduate degrees (1st cycle): one in Information Management and other in Information Systems and Technologies; several post-graduated and master courses (2nd cycle), namely the master in Statistics and Information Management, the master in Information Management, the master in Geographical Information Systems and Science, the master in Geospatial Technologies (Erasmus Mundus joint degree in collaboration with Muenster and Jaume I Universities), and the European Master in Information Systems Management (double degree in collaboration with Faculty of Economic Ljubljana University); and a doctorate (3rd cycle) in Statistics and Information Management. In collaboration with high prestige companies, an innovative group of professionally certified master degrees is also offered.
In ISEGI-UNL teaching activities are based on a personalized strategy, supported by a high professor/student ratio and the use of the most modern technologies, yet, without forgetting a humanized approach. Programs offered in ISEGI-UNL are known by their innovative spirit and the orientation to market needs. Therefore, many companies and other organizations within different industries seek, every year, our graduates from the several cycles of studies. Also, several companies and organizations have joined ISEGI-UNL to form an association envisaging the development of the institute (ADISEGI). But, in ISEGI-UNL, research and development have, at the same level as teaching, a place of high importance. We believe that to maintain a highly qualified faculty and a high quality teaching, it is necessary to develop excellence research, to develop international level scientific production, and, not least important, to assure a close connection between ISEGI-UNL, industries and society in general. In this way we are able to achieve a permanent orientation to our social environment and to offer adequate answers to its needs.
The prestige that ISEGI-UNL has raised near the academic community and the society in general is not strange to its orientation towards quality, seeking permanently innovation opportunities and to achieve excellence in all activities. A good example of this orientation is its certification within the norm NP EN ISO 9001:2008, in the framework of support services to students and to course implementation. Also, due to this quality orientation, ISEGI-UNL has been achieving significant internationalization levels, not only in what regards teaching (with a significant demand by foreign students and the collaboration of internationally prestige professors), but also in its R&D activities, that are largely supported by international partnerships.
But the value of ISEGI-UNL relies mainly on people. This is a young, dynamic and restless organization. It is an organization attentive to the social permanent change, assuming a proactive attitude of anticipating this change. ISEGI’s community lives enthusiastically the organization, offering every day its best, with professionalism, dedication, and mainly with a spirit of a big family, where students, professors and staff have an active and committed role. It is this enthusiasm and collective commitment that allows us to believe that we shall be able to continue walking the path of excellence.
