Education objectives

1) To acquire indepth theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge of state of the art academic research in Translation Studies and in the practical aspects of translation.
2) To acquire the theoretical, methodological and technical skills required to devise and carry out innovative research projects in the specific areas of literary, pragmatic, scientific and technical translation.
3) To acquire the information technology skills required for the applications employed in translation projects.
4) To acquire the ability to employ the knowledge and skills referred to in items 1 to 3, in the identification of relevant topics and the solution of complex issues for the design and execution of research, implementation or training projects in the area of translation, and to develop theoretical, methodological and technological executive solutions which are practical and academically wellfounded.

Access conditions

The entry requirements consider the conditions laid down in national legislation, namely: a) Possess a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent; b) Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized by the Scientific Council (SC) of FCSH/NOVA; c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by the SC of FCSH/NOVA. Applicants are selected taking into account the classification and type of bachelor degree, the academic and scientific curriculum and professional curriculum. An interview may be conducted to deepen the application.

Degree pre-requisites

Length: 3 semesters.
Total credits: 93 credits (60in course units of the study programme + 33 in the non-taught component).
Types of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project Work, Practical Work Experience with Report.

Access to study programmes leading to a doctoral degree.

This course is recognized for career progression purposes of recruitment for teachers of group 210, 220, 320, 330 and 340, as provided in the Statute of Teaching Career.

Evaluation rules

Academic Regulation for curricular units evaluation is available at intranet. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the post-graduate diploma. The final grade of the post-graduate diploma is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Masters course. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the Masters degree. The final grade of the Masters degree will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation, project work or practical work experience report, weighted to 60%.
