Education objectives

The purpose of the Integrated Master degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering is to provide a solid background in the basic scientific areas , such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry Biology as well as Engineering Sciences which are recognised by the National Boarder of Engineers

After the first cycle component, the student is expected to:

  • Understand the basic principles and the concepts ruling Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (balances of mass, energy and momentum; equilibrium; chemical and biochemical kinetics)
  • Analyse and solve problems by analytical, numerical or graphical means.
  • Plan, perform, explain and describe simple experiments.
  • Understand the main concepts on Instrumentation and Processes Control.
  • Understand the concept of sustainability and the impacts of engineering solutions in the environment and society.
  • Acquire competences on using informatics and communicating in English, both orally and in written form.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams and understand the professional and ethical responsibility.
  • Learn on his/her own, and have recognition of the need for life-long learning.

And after the second cycle component, the student is expected to:

  • Perform equipment design and to calculate process and project costs.
  • Relate topics and deal with complex questions.
  • Propose solutions or raise hypothesis in situations of limited or incomplete information.
  • Formulate and optimise innovating solutions.
  • To self-study a topic in depth.

Evaluation rules

The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:

  1. Evaluation based solely on an examination or completion of a final project.
  2. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project. In these courses students can expect to carry out, for example, laboratory activities, mini-tests, tests, individual or group projects, seminar-related activities, any combination of which will be used to determine the final grade.
  3. Evaluation based obligatorily on an examination or a final project. In these courses there extists a form of evaluation similar to one of the aformentioned activities in paragraph 2 as well as a form of evaluation based on a final exam.
  4. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester with the possibility of foregoing an examination or a final project.

The final Dissertation (or Project) involves a public discussion with a Jury.
