Founded in 1977, the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) is an interdisciplinary unit with teaching and research objectives, characterized by the diversity and creativity of knowledge.

Located near Lisbon city center, it hosts a total of 4 743 students, 2 553 in undergraduate programmes, 1 590 in masters and 600 in PhD programmes. It has 310 professors, almost all holding a PhD degree (Facts & Numbers 2017/2018).

NOVA FCSH offers 14 undergraduate programmes (one of them in after-work schedule), during which students can benefit from mobility initiatives (e.g.: Erasmus+), annually involving more than 400 students.

In postgraduate training, NOVA FCSH offers in 2018/2019: 10 postgraduate programmes, 44 master degrees and 26 PhD degrees.

NOVA FCSH is nowadays the largest and most diverse Portuguese institution carrying out research in the Social Sciences and Humanities.

The excellence of research in Social Sciences and Humanities, one of the missions of NOVA FCSH, is assured by 16 Research Units (UI - Unidades de Investigação) and branches of interuniversity centres.

Currently, the growing academic community at NOVA FCSH has about 2000 researchers.
