Objectives

a) To deepen theoretical knowledge of image interpretation and analysis;
b) To know the principles and fundamentals of planning and management in Remote Sensing project;
c) To explore remote sensing images assisted by computer;
d) To know developing methodologies of image interpretation and analysis;
e) To know a project of acquisition of geographic information from Remote Sensing images.

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

1) Preparation and project management with remote sensing images. Technical options: i) image type, single and / or multi-temporal; ii) minimum unit of analysis; iii) nomenclature; iv) ancillary data, field work; v) timeline of tasks; vi) computer resources, human resources and associated costs
2) Summary of the theoretical principles of image interpretation and analysis: i) visual primitives; ii) identification and interpretation of objects in images; interpretation keys; iii) color representation models RGB and HSI
3) Preparation of classifications for the production of land cover land use maps: i) theoretical foundations; ii) examples of classifications
4) Quality Analysis: i) quality elements; ii) assessing the positional and thematic errors; iii) type of sampling, sample unit, sample size
5) Applications: project planning image interpretation and analysis by computer-aided using data of different resolutions and covering different thematic areas.

Teaching method

Lectures, laboratory classes/computer, project, presentations by students

The teaching methodologies are focused on independent work of the student and practice (hands-on). This work is tutorial for the application of theory to practice of image interpretation and analysis. At the end each student must know to propose a project that uses images obtained by remote sensing and to reveal knowledge and skills accumulated over the course.
