It depends on the working method of each training course. The working time for the classes will be agreed with each PhD student, or when there are more than 10 students in each year, it will be agreed with all students of the programme.

Education objectives


Nanotechnology and nanoscience are recent scientific areas that have as main objective the ability to successfully control and manipulate matter at nanoscale, which generally lies between 1 and 100 nm (1 nm = 10-9 m). This new "dimension"the matter has completely different properties which will enable the understanding of new phenomena as well as creating new features that may be used in applications completely disruptive. Summarized in terms we can say that nanotechnology and nanoscience act essentially in the areas of: nanoelectronics, nanobiotechnology and nanomaterials.
A PhD in Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies FCT-UNL has the main aim to enable students with the tools needed in the areas of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and its applications. This is achieved by the faculty responsible for this plan as well as through doctoral research laboratories that support all research excellence, internationally renowned in this area.
This Programme aims to meet a critical need in the market in terms of engineering professionals and researchers specialized in an area of broad international recognition, considered central to the sustained development of knowledge-based industry and disruptive innovation.
