Objectives

The course aims to deepen and systematize students'' knowledge and skills regarding the computational and technological infrastructure used in applications and systems for Digital Media. Students will learn the characteristics of the information and how it can be processed from an application integration perspective. They will also be able to understand and participate in the design of complex systems, contributing to the global architecture and specific modules. Finally, knowledge will be acquired on advanced research topics that can be applied in the design and implementation of future Digital Media systems.

Teaching method

Lectures; Tutorial follow-up for research and project development.
Throughout the semester two assignments are proposed:
- Survey paper: Overview paper, on topics related with the course. It is important to include a critical perspective on the chosen subjects and to compare different approaches and paradigms. This paper follows the format and structure of a scientific paper in the area.
- Media technology project: The project includes the specification and implementation of components of a multimedia system. It identifies the requirements, includes a detailed description of the system architecture and specific components are developed.
The work done is presented in a session with all students.
For the final classification the paper has the weight of 30% and the project of 70%.
