Education objectives

The importance of urban intelligence in constructing cities is now an indisputable reality. Smart cities, able to respond in an integrated manner and in real time to different urban challenges, cities that promote inclusive and efficient solutions in the use of resources but that also generate added value and create new markets.

The Postgraduate Program in Smart Cities is aimed at those who want to actively participate in this process, particularly in the creation of innovative information systems in the context of urban analytics that take advantage of the latest developments in participatory citizenship, open data, mobile computing and the Internet of Things.

The Postgraduate Program in Smart Cities aims to prepare professionals able to participate in the construction of analytical cities by developing innovative solutions of collection, processing and
analysis of city data to promote a better governance in parallel with a more active and participatory citizenship.

With the proposed study plan, this innovative Postgraduate Program is set on a modern structure that combines the several fields that support the information systems of the Smart Cities with the
real challenge that the construction entails.

It's aimed at managers, technical staff in public or private sectors, and other professionals that wish to acquire skills and knowledge in information systems for Smart Cities, using the most advanced technologies, data collection, analysis and processing methods.

This program aims to train professionals to take part in the production of innovative IT systems, whether in the data collection and analysis, or designing information systems for Smart Cities.

Applications - academic year 2018-2019
To complete the application, the applicant must register in NOVA IMS' Applications Portal, fill the form, upload their Curriculum Vitae, pay the application fee (€ 51), and submit the application in the end, until August 3rd, 2018. The selection process is based on the analysis of the applicant's academic and professional curriculum.

Access conditions

The requirements for the applications are: a degree in a compatible field (complete until September 2018); analysis of the applicants' academic and professional curriculum.

Degree pre-requisites

To earn the postgraduate program diploma in Smart Cities, students must complete 10 course units, in a total of 60 ECTS.
