Sobre o Dr. Fabio Silva
Fabio Silva is a PhD student in Biochemistry at Instituto de Tecnologia Química Biológica (ITQB) of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has a 4-year Degree and a Bachelor in Biological Sciences, from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas, Brasil. Prior to his PhD, Fabio has worked in a Portuguese Biotech company, as a technical sales representative of services and products for the Spanish market.
Enrolled in the ITQB-NOVA Ph.D program in 2009, his work is focused in microbial metabolism and molecular biology. During his PhD he has gained technical experience working with analytical procedures such as gas chromatography and HPLC systems in both laboratory scale as well as in bioreactor environment. Besides his PhD project, he has also participated actively in a bacterial genome sequencing project, learning skills in bioinformatics and genome annotation. In 2010 he was elected by fellow students as their representative at the PhD Pedagogical Council of ITQB. Furthermore he is an active participant of InteraQB project, an initiative formed by young researchers from ITQB that organize events in order to promote interaction between researchers from different fields from the scientific community.
Due to his experience in both industry and academic fields, Fabio is very much interested in technology transfer from University to companies, as well as Bioentrepreneurship. As such, he has participated in the 2012 edition of the Cohitec program, a training program in technology commercialization, organized by COTEC Portugal, with the participation of North Carolina State University Hitec Center, Brown University, the Business School (EGP) of Universidade do Porto and ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
