Sobre a Dra. Íris Batalha
Íris Luz Batalha is currently a PhD student at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry and a Master’s in Biotechnology granted by the same Institution. In 2009 she enrolled on the MIT Portugal Program in the Bioengineering Systems Focus Area. Her PhD project is being developed in partnership with Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Institute of Biotechnology of the University of Cambridge, UK. She has experience in affinity protein purification processes, using conventional chromatographic methods and magnetic-based separations. She also possesses expertise in chemistry, particularly solid-phase combinatorial chemistry and high-throughput screening procedures. In 2010 she was a visiting scientist at the Wayne State University, Michigan, USA. She has several published papers and a book chapter. She was awarded grants from national and international scientific committees, among them FCT, HUPO and EMBO. In 2010 she received the Best Poster Presentation Award at the 8th ESBES Symposium, Bologna, Italy, and in 2011 she was awarded a First Honorable Mention at Solvay and Hovione Innovation Challenge.
