
Elvira Fortunato awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree by University of Galati - Romania
Professor Elvira Fortunato, Associate Professor of Universidade Nova de Lisboa was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree by the University Dunarea de Jos de Galati, Romania. The award was given in the area of Materials Science and Engineering and took place on a ceremony held on the 29th October.
This is another recognition of the work of excellence that she has developed, with her team, both as a researcher in the Department of Materials Science of FCT-UNL and as Director of the Materials Research Centre of the same University, transposing the results of her work to the international level.
Professor Elvira Fortunato is a pioneer in Europe in the area of transparent electronics, namely Thin Film Transistors (TFTs) and is the co-inventor of the first transistor and memory paper.
In the past 10 years she has coordinated and participated in 20 scientific research projects in a total of 4,25 M€, 11 of which are international. During this period she submitted as author and co-author 16 patents, 5 of which international (one in partnership with SAMSUNG).
Elvira Fortunato received a Congratulation Vow of the Assembly of the Republic in March 2009 and was distinguished by the European Union Women Inventors & Innovators Network with the special prize of scientific recognition in the area of Transparent Electronics and Paper-e, Finland, in November 2009. According to the Senate of the University of Galati, this distinction is granted for high achievements in scientific and academic activity and for your substantial contribution to the development of a very fruitful collaboration between both institutions.
