Luis M. Camarinha Matos awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree by the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania

Professor Luis M. Camarinha Matos, Full Professor of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (and former student of FCT) was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree by the Politehnica University of Bucharest (UPB), Romania, on the 30th October 2009.

The Politehnica University of Bucharest is the largest and oldest technical university and one of the most prestigious universities in Romania. This high distinction granted by the Senate of UPB to Professor Camarinha Matos is due to his contribution to the development of engineering sciences in the areas of:

• Robotic systems
• Computer integrated manufacturing
• Collaborative networks and virtual enterprises

It should be noticed that, regarding this last area, Professor Camarinha Matos was the founder and is the current president of SOCOLNET - Society of Collaborative Networks with members in 51 countries.
