Message to NOVA

It is a know fact that the last two weeks were rich in events for the Universidade Nova de Lisboa: on the 15th of May took place the Rector’s election and, between the 18th and 20th, took place the visit of experts from the European University Association (EUA) in order to complete the international evaluation requested by NOVA in 2008.

A cycle was therefore closed, with the opportunity for a change of the governance model and to continue, through the implementation of the Strategic Plan, the Action Programme (2009-2013) that I have presented to the General Council.

The EUA evaluation is essential to this process. I would like to thank everyone who has participated in the self-evaluation exercise, for their excellent work. Once more NOVA has given, collectively, a very positive answer to the challenges launched during the evaluation by international experts. The public session on the 20th of May reveals the favourable message transmitted to us.

At the meeting with the Board of Deans last 21st of May, a programme of visits to all Academic Units was scheduled, which you can find attached. The purpose of the visits is to present the Action Programme in more detail, as well as the general lines of the recommendations of the EUA evaluators.

My reflexion during these last months has reinforced my conviction of NOVA’s ability to do even more and better.
