
FCSH Teacher wins A. Sedas Nunes Award 2010
Professor José Neves, from the History Department of FCSH at NOVA won the A. Sedas Nunes Award 2010.
Professor Neves won this year´s award with his PhD thesis “Comunism and Nationalism in Portugal. Politics, Culture and History in the XXth century ”, distinguished by the Jury as “a work of exceptional quality”.
The members of the jury include Jorge Vala, Eduardo Marçal Grilo, João Ferreira de Almeida, José Reis, Laura de Mello e Souza and Manuela Carneiro da Cunha. The A. Sedas Nunes Award aims to “award works of exceptional quality that contribute decisively to the knowledge of contemporary society”.
Sponsored by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia was established in 1997 by the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Lisbon, in honor of A. Sedas Nunes, its founder and a leading name on the implantation of Sociology in Portugal.
