NOVA integrates the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Republic

The national anthem, played by the band of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, was recorded on the 28th January, in the Rectorate’s Auditorium of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. This version of "A Portuguesa" - which will join other versions previously recorded at Centro Cultural de Belém interpreted by soprano Elizabete Matos and the choir and orchestra of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos - will be part of an album that, from January 31 2010, will be distributed to symphony orchestras, brass bands and to the embassies of Portugal abroad, so that the "A Portuguesa" can be interpreted in a uniform manner throughout the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Republic whose official opening will take place on the 31st January, in Oporto.

In addition to the cd with "A Portuguesa", a book with the various scores of the anthem will also be distributed: for symphony orchestra, brass band, or piano and voice. The collection with the scores and the CD will also be available for schools and academies of music.

A second part of the national anthem project, developed by the National Commission for the Commemorations of the Centenary of the Republic, will take place on the 5th October 2010, when it is intended that all brass bands play in unison "A Portuguesa" in an official ceremony commemorating the Day of the Centenary of the Republic.
