NOVA Student wins 3rd at European Judo European Championship (U23)

André Alves, from the NOVA Faculdade de Ciências Médicas won bronze at the Judo European Championship U23 (category -73kg), in November.

NOVA’S athlete started the competition with a victory over Romanian athlete Adrian Nicolae Merge, but lost against Hungarian Attila Ungvari (1st place) during the qualification for the A Group. Later, André Alves was accepted at the "repechage", beating Nadir Babayev, from Azerbaijan. He also defeated Turskish athlete Hasan Vanlioglu by “ippon”.

Judo European Championship U23 took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia, between the 19th and 21st November 2010. 275 athletes from 40 countries participated in this championship.
