Professor António Hespanha Honoris Causa by University of Lucerne

The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lucerne (Switzerland) decided to grant the Honoris Causa degree to António Manuel Hespanha, Full Professor at the Faculdade de Direito of NOVA, “for his great merit as a researcher and professor in the field of Law History”, considering that “he has influenced with his works the renewal of the European legal history, becoming, at the same time, an important mediator between several legal cultures.” The degree will be granted on the 4th of November. The Faculty of Law of Lucerne is one of the European poles of renewal of law teaching and internationalization of European research in that area, drawing upon the region as a hub between the German, Italian and French legal cultures, as well as the central eastern Europe. Although the roots of the University of Lucerne reach back to 1600, (http://www.unilu.ch/eng/portrait_2694.html), it is formally the latest of the Swiss Universities, officially founded in 2000.
