IHMT presents reports on men’s health

NOVA´s Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT) releases, this July, a study about Masculine Health. This first european report on the subject, under which a protocol was signed between the European Commission and the European Men’s Health Forum (EMHF), reveals a tendency of men dying younger than women, in the age group 18 to 60.

The official report presents information on the current state of men’s health related to diseases, age, countries and socioeconomic groups, providing a useful tool to political stakeholders and decision-makers. Recent improvements in women’s health, as well as a greater awareness of lifestyle and healthy behaviour leaves men behind in many health areas. In cancer-related illnessess, which should affect both men and women equally, men present a higher incidence and mortality rate. The report collects experiences and shows some EU counterparts can learn from each other in order to improve their current health politics report.

IHTM Dean, Paulo Ferrinho, Full Professor and Dean of Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT), as well as researcher Bruno de Sousa, IHMT statistician, collaborated in the report about men’s health as members of the Consultant and Authors Groups.

The report will be launched officially on July, in a date to be confirmed, by the European Commission. The report’s executive summary is available on: http://ec.europa.eu/health/publications/index_en.htm.

Note: A summary of the report will be available on www.emhf.org.
