NOVA awards Honoris Causa degree to Egyptologist Zahi Hawass and Brazilian Pediatrician Marchiori Buss

The Rector of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, António Rendas, awarded the Honoris Causa degree to Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Brazilian Pediatrician, Paulo Machiori Buss, President of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation.

The ceremony took place on January 18th, at NOVA´s Rectorate Building Auditorium.

Leading Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, named by TIME as one of the World’s 100 most influential people, is the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Cairo. Hawass coordinates excavations in Giza, Sakara and the Valley of the Kings, having been honored by the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with an Emmy award for his performance in a documentary on Ancient Egipt.

Vice-president of the Executive Committee of World Health Organization (WHO), brazilian pediatrician Paulo Marchiori Buss is a leading name in the country´s public health policies and heads the Center for Health International Relations in Health in the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Buss is an active researcher in Health Promotion and Services. Paulo Marchiori Buss is a strong advocate of South-South cooperation and intellectual propriety applied to medicine.
