NOVA/ Cambridge Joint Initiative: "Research in Africa" | October 3 and 4

NOVA Research in Africa
3 October 2018 to 4 October 2018
Local:
Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon

NOVA University Lisbon organizes on October 3 and 4 the conference Research in Africa, which marks the first initiative within the institutional collaboration between NOVA and the University of Cambridge.

This conference showcases NOVA’s applied research in Africa across different areas of knowledge, thus introducing researchers to a broad portfolio of NOVA’s scientific work in Africa and creating opportunities for dialogue. The ultimate purpose is to foster collaborations between researchers from different backgrounds in joint-projects with social impact in Africa. Hence, there will be a follow-up to the event which will focus on encouraging the creation of multidisciplinary teams that may apply to international funding.

The delegation from Cambridge will be at the Conference to share their approach to interdisciplinary research. In particular, they will describe how the implementation of that research in carried out in developing countries and how they undertake the co-creation work with the local communities.

The relation with the University of Cambridge

Within the context of the newly-created NOVA Institute for Global Development (NOVA InTheGlobe), one of the strategic moves of NOVA, the collaboration with Cambridge came from the contact established with the Cambridge Global Challenges (CGC), a transversal department to the entire University which has the purpose of promoting the multidisciplinary research with an impact in developing countries. Following this contact, there was a mutual interest in the work carried out by each institution in Africa. Members of the CGC are already participating as observers of the capacitation project of African universities (UDI-Africa), coordinated by NOVA in partnership with institutions from several European and African countries.
