On January 10 and 11, NOVA University Lisbon will organize the conference Research in Europe, in partnership with Lancaster University. The conference, which is part of the regional conference cycle promoted by NOVA In the Globe, will bring together researchers from Lancaster with more than 50 researchers from NOVA from various fields and schools who carry out applied research in Europe.

In order to stimulate the development of ideas for collaborative projects impacting the region and to subject them to international funding, participants from both universities will be divided into five thematic sessions: Societal Impact, Innovative Solutions, Sustainability, Health Challenges and Policies, Industry and Competitiveness.

The final product will be presented in a session open to all on the second day of the event, at the Rectorate, which will also have two discussion sessions - one on the development of research in the new digital era and another on the impact of Brexit in the field of cooperation for science and higher education.

The event will be attended not only by the Rector of NOVA, Professor João Ságua, but also by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Professor Manuel Heitor, and Professor Robert Geyer from the University of Lancaster.

This event, which results from a partnership between both institution, which aims to explore opportunities for collaborative research, joint teaching initiatives and strategic knowledge exchange including internationalisation, staff development and student recruitment. This partnership includes all schools, departments, centres and units of the two partner institutions.

Both NOVA and Lancaster University are young universities who quickly ascended to international rankings and have a leading role in the recently formed Heritage Language Consortium, a strategic partnership between six European universities and the Ministry Portuguese Foreign Affairs.

Entry is free but subject to registration.

NOVA Institute for Global Development (NOVA InTheGlobe)

The creation of the NOVA Institute for Global Development (NOVA InThe Globe) is one of NOVA's strategic moves which is designed to work as a transversal institution that promotes interdisciplinarity of areas and whose research is guided by sustainable development goals.

The Conference Research in Europe is the second action promoted within the creation of this institute, succeeding to the Conference Research in Africa, that took place in the Rectorate in October of 2018.
